MTV Video Music Awards 2012 Nominees

   The nominations for this year’s curiously Lady Gaga-less MTV VMAs are out, and to our 

pleasant surprise, or perhaps chagrin, some of our favorite names came up a few times, 

including a Best New Artist nomination for Frank Ocean (“Swim Good”) and a Video of the 

Year nomination for M.I.A. (“Bad Girls”). In the technical categories, you’ll find the likes of 

Lana Del Rey and A$AP Rocky nominated for more serious things like Art Direction, 

Cinematography and Editing.

   Also worth noting, both of Kanye’s supergroups, GOOD Music and The Throne take 

a few nominations each, and Drake and Rihanna nab several nominations for their 

Jamie xx/Gil Scott-Heron interpolation, and lastly, in what we’re sure is some sort of 

Dream Come True-type situation, Childish Gambino is nominated along side Kanye, Jay-Z,
